The course will teach students  the basics of meditation as outlined in Patanjali’s Classical Yoga Texts and there will be teachings about the Philosophy and Psychology of Yoga in the form of Mini-Lectures, Power Point Presentations and, Group Discussions. There will be reading assignments and meditation exercises set between each session so students carry on  with self study throughout the year. A secondary purpose of this course is to provide yoga students an opportunity to develop relationships with one another off the mat. Having a yoga community one can relate to and with is important since the practices and experiences one has are not always easily explained or shared with non practitioners. It just helps to clarify the journey and practices of yoga one chooses to do.

Cost: $350.00

Meditation: Westerners short change themselves by simply doing asana. The eight limbs of yoga outline the practices that bridge the gap between yoga as a form of exercises and yoga as powerfully transformative practice that increases ones concentration, focus and ability to overcome obstacles and live the life that is ours (for a short time only) to its fullest potential. Why not be the change you want to be-learn how to meditate according to the teachings of the yoga of the sage Patanjali . This method is systematic, clear and concise with easy to
follow steps. As an effective practice for reprogramming your mind and opening your heart, meditation has no parallel.

Yoga and the Mind: are you the master or slave of your mind. Beyond the senses are the objects of desire beyond the objects of desire is the mind, beyond the mind there is the intellect, Beyond the  intellect is our true nature And our true self. The Katha Upanishad.

Self Realization: is the goal of yoga but what the heck does that actually mean? And how to you strive on the yoga path to obtain it as people living in the material world paying bills and raising families? And if Self Realisation is the aim, then how does one apply the practices of Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana and (with the grace of God) Samadhi to ones daily routine in order to achieve this so called goal of yoga?

Working with the 5 Kleshas: How to change the way you see everything and how you see your self so that you live with a sense of harmony and purpose.Pattabhi Jois talked often about the way that yoga attracts people who experience the effects of what he referred to as the six poisons. He said (as does Patanjali) that these ways of being in the world are symptomatic of a heart unsatisfied, a life characterised by frustration and unhappiness- or dukha/suffering.His advice was to work with what Patanjali calls the 5 Kleshas- avidya, raga, dvesha, asmita and abhnivesa.
